Summer 2008 Registration Form

Camp Broadstone has been offering a high-quality residential summer program for academically gifted youth for 33 years. We wanted to expand that offering to include a day camp option for our younger campers, and the summer of 2008 is our inaugural season for this new and exciting program! Day camp will be similar in many ways to the residential camp; our shared focus is on encouraging positive social interaction, improving self-esteem and decision making, and promoting educational and physical growth through fun and challenging activities both on and off-camp. Day campers will participate in a sampling of the same wonderful adventure programs and exciting enrichment classes as our residential campers. Day camp will be special, however, because each of the six sessions has its own theme. The schedule for each week will vary slightly to accommodate activities and programs that fit the theme. (Please see the session schedule below!) Because each week will be a new adventure, we welcome campers who would like to register for more than one session.

As a former Enrichment Instructor, Academic Coordinator and Head Counselor for the residential camp program, I am thrilled to be a part of the development of our day camp! Camp Broadstone is a second home to me, and I look forward to fostering the same feelings in our new day campers. Thank you for your interest, and I will see you on Opening Day!

Activities may include, but are not limited to…

Service Learning: Both of the service learning sessions will be different. We will take a trip to the Watauga Humane Society to wash and walk dogs, have an on-camp presentation and activity led by the director of the Hospitality House, a camper skit/talent show and bingo game with the Boone Senior Center, and other locally involved community projects.

Creativity and Art: We will explore several different kinds of art, including pottery at the Paint Your Wings Pottery Studio, metal working at the Mark Read Studio and with our own on-camp activity, and the fun of origami, among other things. Bring your creative spirit!

Appalachian Heritage: After a week of singing traditional Appalachian songs, touring the Daniel Boone Native gardens, playing dulcimers, and hearing regional jack tales, campers will be amazed at how much more connected they are to the area in which they live!

Exploring Science: If planning and planting a butterfly garden and making butterfly hibernation boxes, dissecting owl pellets, and being a detective at our own natural “crime scene” sounds like fun, then you will love our science week…be prepared to get a little messy.
