Spring 2009 Schedule: Essential for anyone who spends significant time in remote places or who has a professional career in the outdoors, the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course will prepare you to make difficult medical decisions. The 80-hour course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision making abilities. The WMI Adult CPR is included in this course. |

April 18-20, 2008 Schedule: Are your wilderness medicine protocols on the tip of your tongue or in the bottom of your pack? Designed specifically to recertify WFRs, this 16- to 24-hour course reviews the WFR curriculum through scenarios, lectures, and discussions. This program is open only to graduates of SOLO, WMI at NOLS, and WMA. SOLO WFRs must be current at the time of the review. Expired non-SOLO WFRs must provide a letter of extension from their certifying school in order to participate in a SOLO WFR Review. Copies of WFR and Adult-level CPR cards are required to complete the recertification process. |

April 26-27, 2008 Schedule: Originally called Backcountry Medicine, the Wilderness First Aid course introduces first aid and long term patient care to camp counselors, trip leaders, and other outdoor leaders. The 16-hour curriculum features a mixture of hands-on practical skills, lecture sessions, and a variety of mock scenarios and simulations. This course is recognized by the American Camping Association and meets First Aid requirements when access to emergency rescue systems is more than an hour away. This course can also be used for re-certification by those with previous WFR certification from WMI or WMA. |

Even though it will technically be spring, please be prepared for winter weather. Follow the packing suggestions in your confirmation packet and see Ray's Weather before your class.
For those who live locally or are staying in Boone - at the Wendy's take Hwy 105 south for about 5 miles to the light at the Ham Shoppe. Turn right onto Broadstone Road (the same road as the original Mast General Store) towards Valle Crucis. Camp is about 1.3 miles down Broadstone Road. Our entrance is the first left after you drive under the footbridge that spans Broadstone Road and it is marked with a big wooden sign. The lodge is to your left as you reach the parking area.
